  • Smart Health Management at Home
  • Measuring and monitoring your blood pressure at home is important for managing and taking preventative measures for high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. Having a home monitor is convenient and helps to ensure that you are taking control of your blood pressure in between doctor's visits. Measuring at home in a familiar setting, and where you feel safe, involves less pressure than at the doctor's office. It is also helpful to see if your medication is working properly. In fact, not only is self-monitoring more comfortable and relaxing, but it can also help to decrease the number of visits to your doctor or clinic.

The Beurer HealthCoach app can be downloaded for free - and features a dashboard for an overview of your at home health management. The app can track your weight and progress over time, as well as, other aspects of your health like: Blood Pressure, Pulse Oximetry, and Fitness.

  • Proper Cuff Sizing
  • Proper Cuff Sizing

Ensuring your upper arm cuff fits is essential to obtaining accurate readings and measurements.

    1. Measure your upper left arm using a cloth tape measure.
    2. Measure halfway between the elbow and shoulder, ensuring that the tape measure is level all the way around. It should be snug, not tight.

If your arm's circumference measures 7 to 9 inches, then a small adult sized cuff is required. A regular, or standard sized cuff, is needed if the arm circumference measures anywhere between 9 to 13 inches. A large adult cuff should be used if the upper arm circumference measurement is 13 to 17 inches.

The Beurer BM76 Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor has a cuff size which measures an arm circumference of 8.7 to 17.3 inches - which generally fits most adults.

How To Properly Take Your Measurement

FAQ

  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do I set up the device?

    • Once the batteries (which are included) are input in the device the illuminated screen will appear with a blinking 12h sign, if you want the time on your device to be using the 12 hour clock setting, hit SET (if you would like the 24 hour clock setting use the +/- to navigate and select SET).
    • You will then be prompted to select the year, use the +/- button to navigate to the proper year selection and hit SET, and follow these same guidelines for the month, day, and time selection. Once the time and date have been set up you will then be asked “ON” with a Bluetooth icon, select “SET” if you would like the Bluetooth function enabled, otherwise use the +/- buttons to select off. Once you hit “SET” the device will turn off. You can begin your measurements by correctly putting your cuff on and hitting the power on button – inflation will begin within 30 seconds.
    • You can begin use immediately without inputting the time and date if you choose. Once batteries are input and you are prompted to enter “12h” or “24h” clock settings, simply power off the device and power back on to begin inflation.

  • What are the measurements of the cuff this product comes with?

    • The cuff fits an upper arm circumference of 8.7 to 17.3 inches - which generally fits most adults.
  • How to properly take my blood pressure measurement (on the upper arm)?

    • Fit the cuff around your bare left upper arm, do not place over clothing. The cuff should be placed so that the lower edge is about 1 inch above the bend of the elbow.
    • Ensuring the tube is in line with the center of your palm, close the cuff with the velcro fastening. The cuff should be fitted tight enough to allow 2 fingers to fit beneath. Insert the cuff tubing into the unit. Make sure it is inserted securely and that there are no kinks.
    • You should perform the measurement sitting down - allow yourself 5 minutes of sitting down before beginning the measurement process. Always make sure that you are resting your arm and raising it to the level of your heart, whether at a table or at a desk. The cuff should be on level with your heart.
  • How tight should the cuff be on my upper arm prior to inflation?

    • First, you should know what size cuff you need. In order to know this:
      • 1. Measure your upper left arm using a cloth tape measure.
      • 2. Measure halfway between the elbow and shoulder, ensuring that the tape measure is level all the way around. It should be snug, not tight.
    • Simply slide the cuff on and readjust once placed in the proper position so that the cuff is snug, a general rule is to allow 2 fingers to fit beneath. The cuff should always fit snug, never a tight fit which feels uncomfortable, but not loose enough where the cuff can be easily moved up and down. Ensure that the air tube is in line with the center of your palm and double check the air tube is inserted securely and that there are no kinks in the tube.
  • How to prevent my cuff from feeling too tight during measurement?

    • In some cases, the cuff squeezes very tightly - this is because it cannot find a reading. Make sure that you are using a proper cuff size and properly placing and tightening the cuff to receive accurate results.
    • There are many reasons your cuff can start to feel too tight during measurement – the cuff could either be too big or too small for your upper arm. Please ensure that the measurements of 8.7-17.3 inches are suitable for you.
    • The cuff simply could be positioned incorrectly, and therefore is feeling too tight during measurement. Please ensure that you are correctly placing the cuff halfway between the elbow and the shoulder and that the cuff is wrapped using the metal piece – to ensure a comfortable measurement and accurate results.
  • What happens if my cuff feels too tight during measurement?

    • During inflation and measurement, you may start to feel the cuff squeezing or pinching so much so that it becomes uncomfortable. If you feel this discomfort, simply press the power button to stop inflation, or unplug the air tube to stop this discomfort.
  • When should I measure my blood pressure?

    • You should take multiple measurements - the first measurement should be in the morning, before eating or taking any medications, and the second in the evening. Do not measure your blood pressure right after you wake up and remember: your blood pressure tends to always measure higher in the mornings.
  • I am still having trouble and would like a step-by-step walk through, who can help?
